April 20th 2014 in Colorado was an epic place to be! Not only were the laws different, the whole focus of the day was different. 4/20 had evolved from a "holiday" for the fringe of a subculture, and the day had now thrust itself into the local, national, and international spotlight. People from all over the country made their pilgrimage to Colorado for this weekend long celebration, many of which gave us the pleasure of stopping into our various Myxed Up locations to share in the experience. It was Myxed Up Creations 21st annual 4/20 celebration, and we couldn't have been happier with the turn-out and the support of the whole Myxed Up family to elevate this 4/20 weekend to a new level! (For the complete Myxed Up 420 photo album, check out the gallery here)
As with previous 4/20 Celebrations the weekend was chalked full of special events at the stores, not to mention a crazy list of special promotional prices and discounts, including 20% OFF (almost) everything in the store! We also had the sidewalk sale kickin', with discounts of up to 80% on many of the items available! The legendary grab bags were packed up with E-710 goodies and ready to go, and from the opening of the Denver store on Friday morning on through the weekend, people from all over the country filed through to check out the best head shop around.
One of the first surprises that we were able to reveal on the initial day of the celebratory weekend centered around the Slightly Stoopid show at Red Rocks on Saturday 4/19. Early on Friday we announced that we had procured 40 tickets to the sold out show, as well as limited edition posters! Once the word started to leak about the development, it was only a matter of time before the show was "Sold Out" once again. All it took was a couple hours, and all of our supply of 40 tickets, as well as the accompanying posters were snatched up. We even had a bonus pair that we were able to give away as a flash contest! The way that unfolded was one of the highlights of the whole weekend, more on that story here.
Not to be outdone, the new Myxed Up Mega Store in Colorado Springs, and Myxed Up Pueblo welcomed a couple of top radio stations in southern Colorado to our stores to hang out and hand out some swag and allow the opportunity to spin the big wheel for some cool prizes! Both radio stations set up shop at both of the stores for remote broadcasts on Friday and Saturday. It was a lot of fun to have D-Rock and 98.9 Magic FM stop in, as well as the crew from Classic Rock 98.1 KKFM. We got to make some new friends, and our customers enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of their favorite on air radio personalities!
As the day wrapped up on Friday, the epicness of the weekend had only just begun to reveal itself, but it was obvious that this 4/20 was once again something very special.
As Saturday rolled around, there was much anticipation in the air, and the focus of the day really started to shift towards the Slightly Stoopid and Mac Miller show at Red Rocks, and the Myxed Up raffle taking place at all of the Myxed Up locations. Myxed Up Creations was also happy to be hosting two of our favorite food trucks, as Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs and Island Peppapot Catering set up shop at the Denver and Aurora stores respectively. We also enjoyed live music at the Denver store as local DJ's Drizzle and D.O.doubleD warmed up friends and fans in the parking lot with some fresh electronic beats.
Simultaneously to the events at our stores on Saturday, we also had the unique opportunity to team up with some other Colorado favorites at Red Rocks for a tailgate party before the Slightly Stoopid show! We couldn't pass up the chance to mingle with old friends and new in advance of the annual event so we sent the Road Tripper up filled with some goodies and set up shop in the Upper North parking lot. At the tailgate party we got to join forces with Yolo Rum, The Pier Magazine, Cheba Hut, Seedless Clothing, Stone Brewing Company, Silverback Artist Management, and Controlled Substance Sound Labs. We had a ton of friends and fans stop in to snatch up some free gear and grub, take some pictures, and shoot the breeze. Thanks to everyone who took the opportunity to party with us before the show!
Meanwhile back in town at Myxed Up Denver and the other three stores, the anticipation was starting to mount, as the Myxed Up 420 raffle was closing in! This years raffle offered the best line up of prizes that we have ever offered for the 420 raffle! On the line to be given away at every Myxed Up location was an E-710 prize pack for third place, filled with an awesome assortment from one of the best vaporizers and e-cigs on the market. The second place prize, valued at over $500, was a deluxe e-hookah package that included a Kelvin H1 Electronic Hookah. And the grand prize was an incredible Colorado 4/20 Experience, which included tickets to the Method Man and Redman show on Sunday, transportation to and from the show, a hotel stay, and catered dinner at a pre-party just moments from the show! With an amazing stash of prizes waiting to be won, it was no wonder that the excitement was at a fevered pitch, as raffle ticket holders started to return to the stores to see if luck would be on their side for this 420 raffle. As with previous years, the stores (and stores parking lot, in Aurora's case) filled to capacity as the crowd was addressed, the final purchases were made, and the winning numbers were announced! Alas not everyone could be a winner, but those that did win received their prizes with big smiles on their face. Those that didn't win were disappointed, but happily made their way to receive their free Myxed Up 420 t-shirt as a consolation prize. As for the grand prize winners, they had some planning to do because they were about to be in for a wild ride, as they had a date with Method Man and Redman set for Easter Sunday in Denver!
At the conclusion of the raffle, and as the day started to wrap up, it was time to turn our attention back to the Hot Box at Red Rocks show. This years iteration of the show featured Mariachi El Bronx, Mac Miller, and Hot Box at Red Rocks veterans Slightly Stoopid! As always, this show didn't disappoint, as the crowd danced it's way through some soggy moments, and the stage crew worked puddles off the stage. There was a great vibe, and a lot of smoke in the air, as the historical Morrison venue lived up to the show's namesake. In spite of the conditions that were quite wet and a little chilly at times, it didn't deter the shows attendees from signing and dancing the night away. As the show wrapped up, and everyone started for the parking lots it began to sink in, we were two days into this celebratory weekend, it had already been hugely successful, and ridiculous amounts of fun, and the craziest part was that it wasn't even 4/20 yet! Finally the day was here! Sunday April 20th. Easter Sunday as it just so happened to be on this years occasion. Early in the day, many who came by the store were in their Sunday finest, as they rolled through the store to get their 4/20 started fresh out of church. Once again there were tourists a plenty that came by the Denver store throughout the day as the stream of people made their way through town hitting up various industry related events. We found ourselves grateful once again to be a destination for so many as they hit all of the hot 4/20 spots. Something felt different about this year, and you could feel a little more freedom in the air. And for every local friend that stopped by, there was someone from out of town to remind us about how lucky we are to call Colorado home! Everything about the day made you feel special, and everywhere you looked was a reminder of what it meant. To be on Colfax, one of the most important and historical streets in the city, on one of the most important days for our movement, with the eyes of the nation watching us here in Colorado. It was amazing to be a part of it, and we shared that sentiment with everyone that paid us a visit on this day!
And as 4:20 ticked by on the clock, and the sun started to get lower in the sky, there was only one thing left to round out this significant 4/20 weekend, Method Man and Redman at Cervantes!
