Why are Video Games and Cannabis a Match Made in Heaven?

Cannabis and video games

Can you cultivate a better video game experience by consuming cannabis?

Thanks to improvements in technology, the rise of the smartphone and the growth of indie gaming, video games are more popular, accessible, and stimulating than ever. So what happens when you infuse your favorite digital pastime with cannabis? Find out with Myxed Up!

Game Time: Myxed Up with Cannabis

The Princess, Luigi, and the Myxed Up MushroomWhether you’re a fan of the latest gaming trends or stick to the classics, video games are one of our most popular pastimes for a reason. Not only do video games stimulate our imaginations and provide us an escape from the monotony of the day-to-day, these also provide gamers with a feeling of control that usually comes with the satisfaction of having learned—and mastered—a particular skill set or gameplay scenario.

Imagination also plays an important role here; in a world filled with uncertainty, in the virtual world, a gamer can be whomever or whatever they’d like. From zombie-killers to dragons or renegade soldiers. When it comes to cannabis and video games you’re only limited by your imagination- and how much weed you have at your disposal.

One major factor affecting our online engagements and video game engagements, is the lack of real world consequences, especially when you make a mistake. For example, in a video came, you can build your own empire, jump off of a bridge, or lift an entire school bus on your own because there are no “real life” factors at play that would result in negative consequences if you fail. Instead, you have the luxurious option of taking another toke and using as many lives as you need to develop a winning strategy.

Getting Paid to Play Video Games and Smoke Weed?

Did you know that there are professional gamers out there making hundreds of thousands of dollars just by playing video games? Professional American gamer Johnathan Wendel (Fatal1ty) did just that. Considered by many as “the first, and best, electronic competition player ever,” Wendel has earned over $450,000 in prize money during his career playing First Person Shooter games like Call of Duty, Doom 3, Counter-Strike, and more.

Wendel isn’t the only gamer to hit the big time. In fact, all eight of the highest paid video gamers in the world average almost half-a-million dollars each in annual prize money winnings. In addition to their winnings from tournaments or competitions, many of the top-tiered gamers also have some form of sponsorship or promotional income they earn passively or by playing in paid forums.

Can Cannabis Improve Your Game?

While more study is needed, some researchers believe that cannabis and gaming can be good for you. This is because video games, particularly newer ones, can help improve your hand-eye coordination while cannabis has been found to deliver significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in lab studies. Together, the combination of reflex exercises and cannabis have the potential to deliver therapeutic benefits when it comes to lowering stress levels and exercising your brain.

Video games and cannabis may also help those coping dementia or Alzheimer’s by helping improve short-term memory retention. According to a test study performed by the Groningen Mental Enhancement Department in the Netherlands, scientists found that use of cannabis while gaming led to increased memory retention amongst Alzheimer’s patients.

According to one researcher:
“All the test subjects played increasingly challenging games each day, but half the group was also administered smoke. Would you believe that the marijuana test group scored 43 percent better memory retention than the control group? It was a far greater benefit to the marijuana-administered group than we could have imagined."

April 20th Myxed Up 420 2017 Edition Wrap-up

Myxed Up 420 2017 was a big splash as the 24th annual April 20th celebration did not disappoint!

This year's edition of our annual Myxed Up 420 celebration was a whirlwind indeed.  With April 20th falling on a Thursday this year, everything lined up to make this year's party a one day, all out, extravaganza.  All the prizes, and surprises.  All the excitement and anticipation.  About just as much fun as you could squeeze into one day.  The Myxed Up Family came from far and wide, and they were representing in full force for this years event!  As always, the first moments of the day were a mad dash!  As the clock struck 10, the line had already been forming in anticipation of the doors opening.  And alas, another amazing 420 was underway.

Before you could even make your way inside the store, there was a flurry of activity as the early birds caught the proverbial worm at the massive sidewalk sales at the Denver and Aurora stores.  Once you got inside, the beats were pumping, and the vibes were right!  Right out of the gate, the stores were popping off as people scrambled to secure a legendary Myxed Up 420 Grab Bag and settled in for an extraordinary day of 420 centric activities.

This year to add to the festivities we were excited to welcome some very special guests, as we invited some of our favorite local glassblowers to present live lampworking demonstrations.  We were truly amazed by the skills of our glassblowing guests as they captivated us with their passion and precision.  It was amazing to watch first hand as they created the art that would one day provide a future customer with one of their most cherished possessions.  Our glassblowing demonstration with Pedro Grimes, AKA Glassphemous, even made the front cover of the local Colorado Springs newspaper, The Gazette.

Our special guest at the Aurora store was none other than the Sandman.  He had a crowd surrounding his tent the entire time as he demonstrated the skills of his craft that he has worked tirelessly to perfect for so many years.

Meanwhile back on Colfax, the crowds flocked to the Denver store to watch in amazement as Malachi and his team fused together some incredible work for a handful of breathtaking pieces and pendants  Joining Malachi on the torch was The Other Glass, a collective that includes Nick (N-stamp) and Steve (Steezy Creations).

All the while, our glassblowers were busy creating visual works of art for your eyes outside, our musical guests were hard at work inside the venue weaving together auditory stimulation for your ears.  Once again the line-up of local talent was an amazing collective of immensely talented artists.

As the grand finale of the day was fast approaching, the beats were banging, and everyone eagerly filled in for the hugely popular 420 raffle.  As with last year, the raffle format was as such.  It was simple.  Spend $4.20, and for each $4.20 spent, you got a raffle ticket to win upwards of $250 to spend on anything in the store in a 4 minute and 20 second mad dash to pick out anything your heart desires.  The winners received a budget of $250 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place.  All you needed was a ticket, and to be present at the time of the raffle, and anyone could be a winner.  One of the winners in Denver was even a last minute $5.00 purchase, just to be entered.  Proof that even against all odds, all you have to do is play to win.  This year's winners handled the pressure like a pro as they made their way through the store to survey their options.  And some of the winners knew exactly what they wanted, as they made a beeline for their first option, like a Pax 3.  Others walked away with rigs, pipes, torches, shirts, and other gear, just to name a few of the prizes chosen.  After all of the excitement of the raffle and the shopping sprees, it was time to give away some t-shirts to commemorate Myxed Up 420 2017. A fine token to mark another amazing year.  And the music resumed to round out the event and bring the day to a close.

Thanks to everyone that was a part of an amazing day of celebrations at all of our stores.  Once again it was an amazing 420, and Myxed Up Nation is what makes the day so great.  Without you, 420 would just be another day.  After doing this for 24 incredible years though, it's obvious that 420 will continue to grow!  And for that, we thank you Myxed Up Family!

Video Transcript

Hey what's up everybody? It's Logan with Myxed Up. Today we are talking about the Jerome Baker Bakerbots. For anyone who doesn't know who Jerome Baker is it’s actually an alias used by Jason Harris. Jason Harris is the man. He was actually taught by Bob Snodgrass in the early 90's, and in 1995 he went on to start Jerome Baker Designs where he then went on to be one of the largest water pipe manufacturing operations in existence. Up until about 1995 (2003) when they went through Operation Pipe Dreams which pretty much ended Jerome Baker Designs, up until recently. He has made an extraordinary come back and now he is back with a vengeance. And here we are to talk about his new 2015 Bakerbots line. So let's get into the Bakerbots. The Bakerbots line is actually five rigs, four of them robots, and then the honey pot right here. It’s actually not a robot, but has the same kind of decals and artwork and box that the other one does, so it is in the line. It’s got a little bear on it and a honeycomb perc in there. And this would be a Bakerbot. Robot, needs his oil there. So each one has a name and a common theme that kind of runs through the decals on the rig and artwork on the boxes. Each one’s got a 10 millimeter direct inject joint, and each one comes with a special all american quartz JBD domeless quartz nail. So they do kinda look like a little toys, and what's a toy without a toy box? One of the coolest parts of the line are the boxes they come with. You got the art on the front all over that kind of represents the common theme of the piece. And then when you open up the box you got a laser cut foam fitting for your piece making taking it on the go super easy. Storing it super easy. It's just fun, fun toys. But before we start talking about them, they do come with a warning, so be warned guys. What you are holding in your hand is 100% out of this world product from the top secret collaboration between artist and mad scientists from Jerome Baker designs and Stonerdays. These JBD “Bakerbots” are each handmade and hold within them the power to enlighten the body mind and stoner spirit. A true work of functioning interstellar art. However, in what we call “unique cases,” it has even been reported these Bakerbots possess a sense of mind and body control in which the consumer can be sent into a journey of euphoric trance. Use with caution and care.

So the first bot we're going to talk about is the “Mind Control” bot. It's got a little inline perc at the bottom. It’s got decals all over it. It's got a little oil gauge there. The “Mind Control” name on it as well. And the battery indicator. It's got some eyes. And the arms are perfect for holding a dabber. You can just throw your dabber right in there and have your little buddy hold it while you're busy heating a nail and such. The artwork on the box is really cool on this one. The theme is mind control so you have three robots emitting a mind control beam and telling your whole family to obey the oil. You've got Father obeys, Junior obeys, Granny obeys! Everybody obeys the oil so you probably should too.

So the next bot we're going to talk about is the “Robots Love Dabs” bot. You can see the name right there on the decal. Also looks like the happiest bot in the whole line. Got a big smile, frothing at the mouth with oil. Hearts all over him. Features a honeycomb perc on the inside and it's the only rig in the line that features a 10 mil joint at a 45 degree angle, which works really well with the honeycomb. And then if we look at the box we can kind of see why robots love dabs so much. So on the box if features a sexy, almost naked, cowgirl sitting on the robots lap, dropping a big old glob into his nail. So pretty much there's the mystery of why robots love dabs solved.

Alright now let's talk about my favorite bot in the whole line, the “Oil Crisis” bot. This bot features the most detailed artwork and complex function of the whole line. You can see looking at him he's got three dimensional eyes made of glass here. He also has fingers on his hands. None of the other bots do. And if you look at the decals, we’ll see again, the oil crisis that he seems to be experiencing. If you look at his oil gauge here, he’s almost empty, frothing at the mouth. He's hungry for some oil. And then if you look at the bottom he seems to be leaking oil out all over his base, that says “robots need oil.” If you look at the function of the piece. We have an inline perc here which goes into a recycler, so you have some recycling action in the whole piece. And then if we look at the box we’ll see another scene of the oil crisis. You see “Robots End Rationing!” You’ve got a big robot here that’s feeding on the oil from all the cars that the humans have seemed to leave all over the place. You see a little guy falling out of his car. Don't really know what happened to the humans, but it seems to be good for the robots, because “Robots need oil.”

Alright now let's talk about the last bot in the line, the “Enlighten All Humans” bot. What's really cool too, he seems to be standing at attention. He's got little legs. His arms at his sides. He has the name on the back, “Enlighten All Humans.” And he also has needles on his arms which he uses to enlighten humans by injecting them with oil right into their heads. He's got two eyes. He got an inline perc on the inside. And then if we look at the box we’ll see how he enlightens the humans. So he's got a big robot. Big needle. And he seems to be injecting some humans with oil straight to their heads. “You will understand.” You can see he's got some angry people here, and then the one he’s injected with oil seems to be having a great time. He’s turning green, and he is loving it. We’ve got artwork on the whole box. Enlighten all humans.

And last but not least, let’s talk about the "Honey Pot" again. I know we already kind of covered it a little bit, but let's get up close and personal here. So we've got the little honey bear right there. We got the bees flying all the way around. Honeycomb perc on the inside. And the way this is shaped means there's no splashback. It works really well every time. Not a Bakerbot but it's really really cool. Here's the box. You’ve got a bear surrounded by bees. Little honeycombs all on the background. Enjoy the buzzzzzz! The Honey Pot.

So, there you have it folks. The whole Bakerbots line. Like I said before these are super limited, and as of now they've been discontinued. So what we have is all we're going to get. At the Denver store, we have the whole line. We also have some at our Colorado Springs store. Aurora store and Pueblo store. Or feel free to check out myxedup.com. Get one. Get the whole set. Be mindful these bots do get lonely so it's good to get multiple so they have someone to hang out with. So there you have it, the Bakerbots, fuggin dope!

World Famous 'Nucleus Bong' Moving on to Chicago

World biggest Jerome Baker piece "Nucleus Bong" makes its move from Myxed Up Creations in Denver to the Made Gallery in Chicago.

As some of you might know, Jason Harris aka Jerome Baker had bestowed a gift upon Myxed Up Creations in Denver several months back.  This gift was called "Nucleus Bong", and to date it is the largest Jerome Baker piece in the world.  Nucleus Bong, aka "Bongzilla" was happy to call Myxed Up it's home for almost 6 months.  Over those 6 months, we had become great friends.  People from far and wide would come to gaze upon it in all of its green glowing majesty.  Some people who saw it knew about the history of the piece, and its cultural significance.  Some people who saw the piece, just saw a giant water pipe, and they wondered out loud how incredible it would even be to use this amazing piece of art.  Nevertheless, the piece had its impact, and we were so happy to have been a part of the story.  Nucleus Bong will now make its move from Denver, on to its new home in Chicago at the Made Gallery.  We were so excited to see Nucleus Bong arrive, and were equally as sad to see it go, but with every end is a new beginning.  We wish Nucleus Bong the best, and to the new handlers of "Bongzilla" at the Made Gallery in Chicago, we say, "Thanks so much, and enjoy the ride!", oh yes and also "Handle with care"!

Jerome Baker fans here in Denver might be sad to hear the news.  The good news is that we will have the new line of BakerBots available at all of our stores just in time for MyxedUp420 Weekend!
